From Design to Part Delivery, Unlocking 2D/3D MBD for OEMs & Manufacturers

A practical workshop for OEMs and suppliers to work from one shared digital source of truth.

OEMs and suppliers are tightly connected, but quality processes often aren’t. OEMs need visibility, compliance, and consistency across the supply chain. Suppliers need clear requirements, fewer change surprises, and faster reporting. When design intent gets “translated” through emails, spreadsheets, and PDFs, the result is rework, delays, and audit risk.

In this workshop, we’ll show how OEMs and suppliers can align on a shared digital quality language using 2D drawings + 3D Model-Based Definition (MBD), so everyone is working from the same requirements, the same characteristics, and the same quality intent.

Empower Manufacturing with Digital Transformation in 5-Axis Machining

Explore how the North American machine tool industry is adapting to cost pressures, workforce challenges, and rapid digitalization. This session examines real-world ROI from closed-loop manufacturing, predictive maintenance, and advanced control systems, while highlighting emerging technologies—AI, automation, and smart data integration—that will define machining over the next 3–5 years.

From Stopwatch to AI: How 3M Modernized Continuous Improvement Across 40 Plants — Without an IT Project

Most manufacturers know what they want from continuous improvement: faster time studies, consistent ergonomics assessments, and the ability to simulate changes before touching the line. What stops them is the implementation: IT approvals, system integrations, and months of onboarding before a single plant sees results.

Hear how 3M deployed AI-powered Kaizen and ergonomics across 40 global plants, starting with a pilot that went from zero to a rebalanced line in under one week — no PLC integration, no wearables, no network access required. Learn how plant teams drove adoption bottom-up, how EHS leaders transformed their ergonomics program with a single smartphone video, and what it looks like when CI moves at the speed of a Kaizen event, not an IT project.

Creating a Digital Twin of your Shop Floor to See your Future Production Reality

Whether managing production in spreadsheets or using your ERP's scheduling functionality, most hi-mix/lo-volume manufacturers have a very difficult time getting visibility of their future state of their production environment much further out than just a few days, maybe a week or two.

In this presentation, you will learn how to quickly create a Digital Twin of your production environment that will provide a believable view of your future production reality however far out into the future you have backlog.

Having a believable future production reality is critical in understanding the true picture of your:

  • Load v Capacity
  • When/Where your production constraints will lie (machines, people, materials)
  • When you can confidently commit to production orders being completed.

Designing Connectivity Upfront: The Foundation for Modular, Lights-Out Manufacturing

As machinery engineers push toward lights-out production, predictive maintenance and AI-driven optimization, one design choice is becoming mission-critical: when and how connectivity is engineered into the machine.

For decades, connectivity — the delivery of power, signal and data between subsystems — has been treated as a late-stage integration task. Core mechanical and process modules were prioritized first, with cables and interfaces addressed after the fact. Today, that approach is no longer sustainable. Shrinking footprints, rising performance expectations, predictive maintenance requirements and remote service demands mean that connectivity must be embedded at the earliest stages of machine design.

This session will explore why thinking about connectivity upfront fundamentally changes what a machine can do.

Moving away from hardwired point-to-point systems toward connectorized, modular architectures reduces build and commissioning time, simplifies expansion and improves overall serviceability. Hybrid connectors that combine power, signal and data into a single, compact interface enable faster assembly, error-proof installation and easier subsystem replacement. This modularity reduces mean time to repair and minimizes both planned and unplanned downtime — a critical advantage in high-value production environments.

Early-stage connectivity design also unlocks lights-out operation. Reliable, diagnostic-rich connectors enable continuous data acquisition, automated control loops and real-time optimization. Machines can monitor flow rates, temperatures, and other critical parameters without direct human intervention — feeding predictive analytics platforms that anticipate drift, prioritize maintenance and protect yield. Every connection becomes a data pathway, supporting traceability, remote diagnostics and intelligent decision-making.

Beyond uptime and performance, connectivity-driven architectures improve sustainability and safety. Precision monitoring allows dynamic resource management and reduced waste, while automated, sensor-enabled systems limit human exposure to hazardous tasks. In a lights-out environment, humans remain essential — but are deployed strategically for complex, high-value interventions rather than routine oversight.

As machines become more compact and complex, connector size, reliability, error-proofing and lifecycle durability directly impact performance and maintainability. Designing connectivity early enables scalable, flexible platforms that adapt to new processes, new regulations and new production demands — without costly redesign.

Session takeaways:

  • Why designing connectivity at the earliest stages of machine development is critical to performance, scalability and uptime.
  • The advantages of connectorization over hardwiring in modular machine architectures.
  • How connectivity enables lights-out manufacturing through real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance.
  • How compact, error-proof connector design supports optimization, safety and future-ready machinery.

Bridging the OT Reality Gap: What Your Plant Floor Knows About Cyber Risk That the C-Suite Doesn’t

AMDT research shows a persistent “reality gap” inside industrial organizations: executives are highly confident in their OT security and stability, while the teams closest to the equipment see frequent disruptions, human error, and growing cyber exposure. This session helps manufacturers close that gap by combining data from US plants with a practical playbook for unifying leadership, engineering, and OT around a single source of truth for configurations, changes, and incidents.

Add a Shift Without Hiring One: Automating Machine Tending for More Throughput

Manual machine tending does more than strain your workforce; it quietly caps throughput, reduces uptime, and ties growth to labor availability.

This session examines the actual operational costs of manual tending, including lost production hours, inconsistent cycle times, and the compounding effects of turnover and labor gaps. You’ll see how automated machine tending helps manufacturers increase throughput without adding headcount, unlock additional capacity, stabilize performance, and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

We’ll introduce a zero-capital, fully supported automation model that removes traditional barriers and makes scalable growth accessible to manufacturers of any size. If labor constraints are limiting output, this session will show how to turn machine tending into a strategic advantage.

Unlocking Shop Floor Performance: Using MES Systems to Eliminate Bottlenecks, Improve Scheduling, and Drive Manufacturing Efficiency

The primary purpose of a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is to provide real-time visibility into manufacturing operations and the data needed to improve performance, reduce costs, and maximize production efficiency. By directly integrating with shop floor machinery and resources, an MES continuously collects production data that reflects actual conditions rather than assumptions made during planning.

This presentation will examine how MES systems can improve shop floor performance, providing a competitive advantage to companies who utilize the software. Attendees will learn how enforced process requirements and task interdependencies ensure that each operation is executed in the correct sequence, with all prerequisites completed before work is released. This structured approach helps reduce errors, prevent incomplete or out-of-sequence work, and minimize rework that can create bottlenecks.

The session will also explore how real-time equipment and material data improves scheduling decisions and increases productivity. By tracking labor, downtime, and maintenance costs as they occur, MES systems provide manufacturers with actionable insights to optimize resource allocation and reduce operational expenses. Product tracking and traceability will be discussed as key enablers for faster issue resolution and improved quality control.

Finally, the presentation will connect MES capabilities to long-term competitiveness by showing how standardized processes and reliable production data help bridge the skilled labor gap and establish a foundation for automation and AI. Attendees will leave with a practical understanding of how MES systems drive predictable outcomes, support continuous improvement, and strengthen manufacturing performance across the enterprise.
